The Propaira A. Areata Botanical Concentrate is a promising plant-based topical therapy designed to help people (especially younger patients) regrow hair safely by addressing the underlying drivers of alopecia areata.
The key ingredients in this product were used as an investigational topical for treating alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune condition that causes patchy hair loss.
The botanical concentrate is a multi-plant formulation made from extracts of four generally recognised as safe (GRAS) ingredients:
- Allium Cepa (onion bulb)
- Citrus Limon (lemon fruit)
- Theobroma Cacao (cocoa)
- Paullinia Cupana (guarana)
These components are selected for their combined anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic (cell-protecting), antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects. They target key mechanisms in alopecia areata, such as hair follicle cycling, endothelial cell activation, and reducing inflammation around hair follicles, while sparing the immune system.
In the international Phase 2/3 RAAINBOW trial (in children and adolescents aged 2–17 with moderate-to-severe AA), a similar plant-based topical product called Cinainu showed statistically significant benefits versus placebo after 24 weeks:~26% greater hair regrowth on average (measured by SALT score).
- Higher responder rates (noticeable improvement in ~26% of patients vs. 5% on placebo).
- Improved quality of life (appearance and wellbeing).
- Benefits continued and even strengthened during a 24-week follow-up period after treatment stopped.
‘Cinainu’ itself is not yet approved for general use (it is still in clinical development). However, these strategies represent a potential first-in-class botanical option for both moderate and severe AA, including in children, where treatment options have been very limited.
Directions for use
Apply a few drops of Propaira A.Areata Botanical Concentrate to the affected areas of the scalp and leave on.
Apply twice per day. Once in the morning and once at night.
